Gemini Spark setup guide: apps, tasks and triggers
Spark arrives already knowing your Google account, so setting it up is mostly a matter of subtraction: fewer apps, fewer tasks, closer watching.
Step by step
Open Spark in Gemini
Launch Gemini on Android, iOS, macOS or the web and change to Spark. If Spark does not show up, compare your plan and location with the availability page Google publishes.
Trim its app access
Review which of Photos, Chrome, Docs, Drive, Calendar and Gmail it may use. Switch off whatever your first tasks will not need.
Schedule a recurring task
Ask for a job that recurs, for example a list every Monday of emails still waiting on your reply. Spark stores it and runs it on that timetable.
Add an event trigger
Have Spark act when something happens, for example a message from a particular client, a change to your calendar or someone sharing a document with you. Start with one trigger so you can see exactly what sets it off.
Supervise the first runs
Google asks users to keep a close eye on Spark. Read every early result from start to finish, and halt any task heading the wrong way.
The first week
Keep the list of tasks short in the first week. Spark handles as many as 15 at a time, but a handful of precise jobs is far easier to check than a crowd of vague ones. Phrase each recurring request exactly as you want it done, since jobs it repeats gradually become skills. Business users should find out from their Workspace admin what has been restricted. Remove any schedule you have stopped needing instead of letting it run on.
Mistakes to avoid
- Opening every Google app to Spark on the first day.
- Running lots of loosely worded jobs at once rather than a handful of exact ones.
- Trusting early results without reading them, despite Google's request for close supervision.
