How to set up Muse: app, WhatsApp and boundaries
Muse is up and running within minutes, which is exactly why your boundaries message should go out before its first errand does.
Step by step
Install Muse
Download Muse through Google Play or the App Store, or visit muse.ai from a computer. There is also an app for the Mac.
Sign in and name your Muse
Use your Meta account to sign in, then pick an avatar and a name. Anyone who received an invite code from a friend has 48 hours to enter it in Settings for bonus tokens.
Link WhatsApp
If WhatsApp is where you already chat, connect it so you can message Muse there. Memory is shared with the app, so a conversation can move freely between the two.
Send your boundaries
Before any errand, message Muse a plain list of rules: it must never disclose your schedule, address or phone number, must ask before it pays or accepts any offer, and must check with you before contacting someone new. Ask it to keep this as a standing rule.
Start with a small errand
Begin with something like tracking a price or keeping a reminder list rather than buying anything. Watch the way Muse requests your approval before deciding how far to trust it.
The first week
Keep the first week to low-stakes errands. Ask Muse for its token balance before anything long, because the free tokens refill weekly on a day set by your sign-up date. When shopping, favour shops that run on Shopify and PayPal, where checkout goes more smoothly, and leave Amazon out, as it blocks Muse. If you sell on Marketplace, arrange pickup details yourself so your address never passes through Muse. Resend your boundaries whenever you change them.
Mistakes to avoid
- Pointing Muse at Amazon, which blocks it and warns shoppers about unauthorised agents.
- Letting it buy or haggle before you have watched how it asks for approval.
- Leaving out the boundaries message; a reviewer's Muse gave a Marketplace buyer his home address.
