Google unveiled Gemini Spark at its I/O conference on 19 May 2026. The agent runs on Gemini 3.5 from Google's cloud and draws on everything your Google account already knows. Americans pay least: Google AI Pro includes it for $19.99 a month. In other supported countries it comes only with Google AI Ultra, whose two tiers cost $99.99 and $199.99 monthly, and Britain, Switzerland, Nigeria and the European Economic Area cannot buy it on any plan.
A day run on timers
Spark behaves less like a conversation partner and more like a well-kept diary. You tell it which Google apps it may touch, then set up jobs in the Gemini app: a weekly round-up of mail still awaiting a reply, say, or a task that springs into action when a particular client writes or a meeting moves. As many as 15 can run side by side. Over time, jobs you repeat harden into reusable skills, so the second request of a kind needs less explaining than the first, and the diary more or less keeps itself.
Home advantage
If your email, calendar, documents and photos already sit with Google, Spark starts with a head start no rival can match. Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Photos and Chrome are native territory, so nothing from a third party has to be plugged in. For Americans it is also the cheapest paid agent of the five, and Google AI Pro, at $19.99, throws in cloud storage and Google's other AI extras. The rollout came in stages: Ultra subscribers in May, the Mac in June, extra Ultra markets in early July, and the American Pro plan from 23 July.
Outside the walled garden
Step away from Google's own apps and much of the advantage fades. Spark cannot be reached from WhatsApp, Slack or any other chat app, which leaves it out of the places where many people actually talk. Its initiative is mostly scheduled rather than self-directed: it responds to timers and triggers instead of proposing work of its own. Geography bites too. Outside America the $19.99 plan does not include it, so you need Ultra at $99.99 a month or more, and in Britain, Switzerland, Nigeria and the European Economic Area no plan at all will do.
Supervision required
Spark operates on data Google already holds for you, which means its reach extends exactly as far as the apps you switch on for it. Google itself urges people to watch the agent closely and to interrupt when something looks wrong. Sensitive actions wait for your confirmation, and on business accounts Workspace administrators keep their usual controls. The practical discipline is simple: allow apps one at a time rather than all at once, and prune scheduled tasks that have outlived their purpose, because a forgotten trigger is still a live one.
